Cerebro est une application de géolocalisation des données internes de l’association Paris-Montagne, ayant pour but de rendre compte de l’étendue des actions menées par l’association depuis sa création. Paris-Montagne, l’impatience de la science...¶

Réforme de l’université et des IUFM, massification des effectifs, évolution des techniques pédagogiques, l’école républicaine est aujourd’hui confrontée à des questions qui concernent toutes les générations. L’association Paris-Montagne est convaincue de la nécessité d’une éducation démocratique et exigeante, mais compte aussi sur le dynamisme des jeunes et sur l’envie d’apprendre. C’est pourquoi elle a choisi d’agir au niveau national sur un terrain fondamental, le goût du questionnement.

Fondée par des chercheurs confirmés et de jeunes diplômés de l’Ecole Normale Supérieure, l’association cherche à combler l’écart qui sépare trop souvent la curiosité de l’éducation scolaire. Elle veut faire la preuve auprès des jeunes, en mettant les sciences au coeur d’un questionnement citoyen, que leur passion est un atout pour la vie qui les mènera bien au-delà de l’apprentissage scolaire et des sciences elles-mêmes.

Le premier chantier de l’association est l’action auprès des publics dits éloignés, dans des classes où les élèves motivés ne peuvent pas toujours laisser s’épanouir leur curiosité, leur créativité et leur ambition. La « Science Académie » travaille avec des lycées appartenant aux Réseaux d’Education Prioritaire pour lutter contre ce phénomène d’autocensure. Elle propose des rencontres et des stages à plus de 400 jeunes par an pour leur permettre de toucher du doigt la réalité de la recherche. A l’issue des stages, les jeunes présentent leur expérience au cours d’un congrès. Les plus motivés d’entre eux sont ensuite conviés à deux semaines d’immersion dans le monde des sciences. Au programme : la découverte d’hôpitaux et de centres de recherche des plus prestigieux, et l’animation, avec l’équipe Paris-Montagne, du festival d’été.

Dans la troisième semaine de juillet, l’association organise à l’École Normale Supérieure de la rue d’Ulm un festival de cinq jours, destiné aux jeunes des centres de loisirs et au grand public. C’est l’occasion d’une rencontre intergénérationnelle autour d’ateliers et de démonstrations spectaculaires, dont la clé est la démarche scientifique.

L’association fête cette année son cinquième anniversaire et la fréquentation du festival et celle de la Science Académie ne cessent d’augmenter. Le programme a été étendu à Lille, Lyon, Toulouse, Montpellier, Nancy et Nouméa.

Les bonnes volontés continuent à se manifester. Avec ses partenaires européens, l’association a commencé une vaste réflexion sur l’innovation didactique et s’engage pour une éducation citoyenne et collaborative.

Motivations¶

Paris Montagne est l’initiative d’une communauté enthousiaste, soudée par une vision des sciences porteuses d’un message citoyen.

La science favorise le fonctionnement démocratique. L’esprit critique et le rationalisme sont historiquement liés à la construction des démocraties. Aujourd’hui la science a besoin de diversité culturelle et sociale. L’initiation à la recherche scientifique pousse à s’impliquer dans la vie citoyenne et politique. Les acteurs scientifiques que formés aujourd’hui seront donc les acteurs citoyens de demain.

L’idée de Paris Montagne est née au sein d’un petit groupe de jeunes chercheurs, en 2005, après les troubles dans les banlieues françaises. Pourquoi ne pas profiter des vacances d’été pour faire venir dans les institutions de recherche de la Montagne Sainte Geneviève la jeunesse de ces quartiers et lui proposer, à quelques pas des divertissements de Paris-Plage, une invitation à la découverte des défis scientifiques actuels ?

Autour de cette idée simple, Paris Montagne mobilise la communauté scientifique pour développer de nouveaux modes de médiation scientifique, insuffler aux jeunes une curiosité - voire de la passion - pour les sciences. En multipliant les contacts et les rencontres entre le monde scientifique (étudiants, chercheurs, professeurs), les acteurs de l’éducation populaire, des médiateurs et des artistes, l’association contribue à une meilleure appréhension des sciences par le grand public.

Paris Montagne se concentre sur les jeunes des milieux défavorisés, peu familiers avec le milieu scientifique et académique. Parce qu’ils manquent de contacts et sont victimes d’autocensure, Paris-Montagne, les accompagnent, les conseillent et les incitent à prendre des initiatives. La dynamique lancée par Paris Montagne se poursuit donc grâce aux jeunes qui propagent leur engouement pour le savoir et leur soif de questionnement.

Le programme Science-Académie¶

La Science Académie s’adresse à des lycéens aimant les sciences et issus de milieux défavorisés. Elle espère susciter des vocations scientifiques et lutter contre la désaffection des filières scientifiques en leur proposant des stages en laboratoire pendant les vacances de février et d’avril. Afin d’ouvrir des opportunités, l’association sélectionne les jeunes en fonction de leur motivation et sur critères sociaux, non pas sur leurs résultats scolaires.

Tout au long de l’année, les “Science Académiciens” sont encadrés par une équipe de doctorants et de chercheurs confirmés. Ils se voient proposer de multiples activités les amenant à rencontrer et échanger avec différents acteurs du monde scientifique (rencontres avec des enseignants et des chercheurs, visites de laboratoires et institutions culturelles, semaines d’activités scientifiques, réunions sur l’orientation...).

L’association fait tout son possible pour encourager et soutenir la réalisation de leurs propres projets, tels que la création d’un atelier sciences au lycée, l’organisation d’une semaine pluridisciplinaire.

Paris-Montagne s’attache également à développer un réseau international de médiation scientifique. Elle permet aux “Science Ac” de participer à des universités d’été dans différents pays, leur offrant ainsi l’opportunité de rencontrer des jeunes de leur âge, de différentes nationalités et d’autres manières d’aborder les sciences.

Les lycéens ont accès dès leur inscription à toutes les activités de la Science Académie. Afin que les actions de l’association profitent au plus grand nombre, la participation aux activités est entièrement gratuite, les frais de transport et les repas leur étant totalement remboursés.

Les objectifs de la Science Académie¶

Lutter contre le phénomène d’autocensure :
En raison de leur environnement social et scolaire, des jeunes dotés d’un potentiel certain sont amenés à penser que le monde scientifique leur est inaccessible. La Science Académie leur offre un terrain d’expérimentation pour affirmer leur passion pour les sciences et leur permet de nouer des contacts sur le long terme avec des étudiants et des chercheurs. De ces rencontres, les lycéens pourront nourrir une envie de se projeter dans des études scientifiques longues. À long terme, ces jeunes d’horizons variés pourront contribuer à l’enrichissement du monde scientifique de demain.
Renouer un lien entre recherche et société :
Pour comprendre les différentes sociétés d’aujourd’hui et appréhender celles de demain, les jeunes ont besoin de décrypter les enjeux scientifiques, technologiques et éthiques auxquels nos sociétés sont confrontées. Immerger ces jeunes dans le quotidien de la recherche scientifique, c’est faire d’eux une génération de citoyens avertis.
Créer une communauté dynamique de passionnés des sciences :
Au fil des années, l’association s’attache à créer une communauté dynamique et solidaire, regroupant les différentes « promotions » grâce à des rencontres régulières. Ces interactions permettent aux jeunes de construire leurs parcours, et de faire émerger des initiatives fructueuses pour la diffusion des connaissances scientifiques.

Les activités proposées¶

Les stages de découverte en laboratoire :
public et privé : les lycéens passent 3 à 5 jours au sein d’une équipe de recherche lors des vacances de février et d’avril.
Les semaines thématiques pluridisciplinaires :
Les lycéens visitent différentes institutions de recherche où ils assistent à des conférences, participent à des ateliers autour d’une thématique précise. Ces semaines sont l’occasion de créer des animations présentées sur le festival de juillet.
Les congrès régionaux organisés dans chaque ville :
Où tous les science académiciens sont rassemblés pour présenter, tels des chercheurs confirmés, un poster résumant le sujet de leur stage devant un jury.
Des séjours à l’étranger :
Au sein de “sciences campsâ€.
La semaine d’été :
En juillet, les Science Académiciens les plus motivés sont les hôtes de l’École normale supérieure où ils suivent conférences, séminaires et participent à des ateliers de médiation, qu’ils mettront en pratique lors du festival Paris-Montagne.
Des rendez-vous réguliers :
Au moins une fois par mois, la Science Ac’ organise des activités où tous les membres du programme sont invités. Au programme, projections de films, débats, conférences ou encore rallyes organisés par les promotions des années précédentes.
Une réunion annuelle sur l’orientation :
Organisée par les bénévoles afin de mieux informer les lycéens sur les carrières scientifiques et les filières à suivre. Des entretiens individuels aux lycéens désireux d’un soutien particulier sont également proposés.
Une aide aux initiatives personnelles comme un club de sciences:
Les lycéens sont incités à parler autour d’eux de leur rencontre avec la science, de leurs passions et perspectives d’avenir.

Pertinence de l’application Cerebro¶

L’étendue et la diversité des projets de l’association Paris-Montagne requiert d’organiser efficacement les données. Mais au delà du simple stockage des données, il est apparu important à l’association de pouvoir mieux visualiser ses actions et les personnes y participant, en les représentant géographiquement sur le territoire. L’objectif devient alors de consolider son action dans le domaine de l’éducation en l’appuyant sur une réflexion basée sur des données statistiques. Par exemple, il sera intéressant de suivre l’historique des lycéens participant à la Science Académie pour certains lycées en particuliers, ou bien la répartition géographique des lycées et centres de recherche les plus dynamiques.

Dans le cadre du mouvement Open Data, l’association désire également permettre à tous, et notamment les lycéens, chercheurs, parents, enseignants, politiques, associations, etc, de visualiser ces informations.

L’association était à la recherche d’un moyen de coupler les informations de son système d’information avec les données issues de du mouvement Open Data afin de mettre en place un système de visualisation efficace.

Lecture statistique de l’activité¶

L’activité de Paris Montagne est intéressante à analyser pour établir des études statistiques sur les actions entreprises. Savoir quelles sont les thématiques de stage les plus populaires, quelles sont les laboratoires les plus ouverts ou bien quel est l’influence des stages sur les jeunes sont des problématiques intéressantes pour l’association et Cerebro peut répondre à ces questions lorsqu’il a toutes les informations pertinentes.

Outil de communication¶

Présenter les résultats et projets obtenus est capital pour une association. C’est pour cette raison que Cerebro a été lancé afin de permettre à nos soutiens de visualiser l’action de Paris Montagne. Une application web est un moyen simple et ludique de permettre à nos soutiens de se rendre compte de l’ampleur de nos actions.
